Born and raised in Baku, Azerbaijan, and having graduated from the Faculty of Decorative Arts at Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Art, Rashad Alakbarov is a multi-media artist whose works have touched upon a variety of disciplines, including sculpture, video art, architectural design, painting, and theatrical decoration. However, in recent years, the use of light and shadows in grand, elaborate installations has been a mainstay in the artist’s conceptual work.
His signature style is that of simple, everyday objects, such as metal wires and plastic pipes and shards, positioned in such a way, while under proper lighting, that they cast shadows on a wall, the result of which is a formulaic, albeit subtle and delicate, work of strong, beautiful imagery. His works are exhibited in private collections in Italy, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Russia.
