The Largest Great White Shark Ever Recorded: “Deep Blue”

In November 2013, during a deep-sea dive off the coast of Guadalupe Island, Mexico, shark expert Mauricio Hoyos Padilla recorded what is believed to be the largest great white shark ever captured on camera. Nicknamed “Deep Blue”, the 20ft-long, heavily pregnant shark is estimated to be at least 50 years old and can be seen in the footage taking a curious bite out of the cage which encloses the divers.

The awe-inspiring, albeit terrifying, video shows the female, which is usually the elusive of the two, dwarfing the group of cameramen while circling the cage. Despite the protective cage being roofless, the divers seem unfazed by the encounter with the monster.
