Artist Hannah Yata’s Ethereal, Dream-Like Paintings Are Not To Be Viewed If On Psychedelic Drugs

Hannah Yata is a half-Japanese artist who is based in Brooklyn, New York. Having grown up in the countryside, Yata has derived her surrealist, mind-altering style mainly from her passion for the natural world, and uses masks, vivid, grotesque imagery, and the female form so as to express an array of characters and emotions while touching upon ideas of femininity, culture, wildness, and the struggle of the natural environment. The results are awe-inspiring, trippy and likely to induce feelings of unease and queasiness.

Albeit an inchoate career, given that she only graduated in 2012 from the University of Georgia, Hannah Yata has seen her work showcased worldwide, e.g. Japan, Australia, the UK, and France.
