In 2015, while competing at the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, two Filipino divers — John David Pahoyo and John Elmerson Fabriga — managed to score zero points from a total of seven judges in the 3-metre springboard event. Both athletes, despite landing awkwardly on their backs, attempt to laugh off their respective blunders, and even engage in an affable high ten while poolside.
The spectacular, albeit comical and seemingly painful, dives, which have since been viewed by millions of people worldwide, prompted Richie Garcia, the chair of the Philippine Sports Commission, to demand an explanation from his country’s aquatics chief, Mark Joseph, at the time.
